Phineas and Ferb is an Emmy award-winning animated series on Disney Channel, as well as Disney XD. It is currently one of three cartoons on Disney Channel that are still running (the others being Gravity Falls and Wander Over Yonder) and every episode has its own musical number. Originally broadcast on August 17 2007, this show chronicles stepbrothers Phineas Flynn and Ferb Fletcher and their attempts to make every day of Summer an adventure, while their sister Candace tries to bust them. The Flynn-Fletchers' pet platypus Perry works as a secret agent who battles the evil Heinz Doofenshmirtz as Agent P.
Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh have been trying to get the show on the air for 16 YEARS, believe it or not! Finally, Disney Channel decided to take the show under its wings. As a matter of fact, Disney liked the song for the first episode (Gitchee Gitchee Goo) SO much that they ordered a song for every episode. So that's how that happened. The show first premiered with "Rollercoaster" on August 17, 2007 after the premiere of "High School Musical 2." It gained a whole bunch of views. The show officially took off on February 1, 2008 - and everyday day of that month had a new episode broadcasted. The show has gained major popularity and critical acclaim from viewers and critics alike. Severals episodes (like "Phineas and Ferb Get Busted" or "Phineas and Ferb Christmas Vacation") have gotten massive views from people all over the world. The show also has its own line of plush toys, video games, and even a book series.
The main plot of the show revolves around stepbrothers Phineas Flynn and Ferb Fletcher who live in the city of Danville. They became stepbrothers with Phineas's mom (Linda) married Ferb's dad (Lawrence). They make the most out of their summer by building outrageous things in their backyards. Their sister, Candace Flynn, tries to bust them by showing their mom the outrageous thing they built. But by the time she comes, the outrageous thing has somehow disappeared.
The Flynn-Fletchers' pet Perry the Platypus works undercover as a secret Agent P, employed by the O.W.C.A. (Organization Without a Cool Acronym). Agent P battles Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz, a mad scientist who tries to take over the Tri-State Area. Doof also has a daughter named Vanessa who tries to show her mom that Heinz is evil - similar to how Candace tries to bust her brothers. Doof's brother, Roger, is Mayor of the city, and Heinz envies him since he is his mother's favorite.
Phineas and Ferb's plans often include the involvement of kids from around the town. But most frequently, their friends Isabella Garcia-Shapiro, Baljeet Rai, and Buford Van Stomm. Isabella has a crush on Phineas and she lives right across the street from him. She is also part of the Fireside Girls, Troop 46231 which is a girl scout. Baljeet is an Indian boy who is mostly concerned about grades. Buford is the neighborhood bully, who often picks on Baljeet. Once in a while, Irving, Phineas and Ferb's biggest fan, stops by to engage in their adventures.
Candace is a teenager, and her best friend is Stacy Hirano. She has a crush on Jeremy Johnson. Jeremy works at the Mr. Slushy restaurant in the Googooplex Mall. Jeremy has a little sister named Suzy, who rivals with Candace for the title of Jeremy's favorite girl.
The show is rated TV-G.

A Disney Channel original movie, Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension is set to premiere on August 5, 2011.
In the movie, it's been 5 years since Phineas and Ferb adopted their pet platypus Perry from the O.W.C.A. Animal Shelter. To celebrate, they play giant platypus badminton. However, while being launched in a shuttlecock, they crash into Agent P's hovercar which he is using to get to Doofenshmirtz Evil Inc., and they are set off course. They all crash onto the roof of Doof's lair, and destroy his latest invention, the Other Dimension-inator. Not knowing that he is evil, Phineas and Ferb help Doof rebuild it, much to Perry's horror. They go into the 2nd Dimension, and find that it is ruled by a much more evil and diabolical alternate version of Doofenshmirtz. Along the way, they meet their alternate selves, discover that Perry is a secret agent, and team up to end alternate Doofenshmirtz's reign over the Tri-State Area.
Storyboards for the movie's opening sequence and one of the songs "Everything's Better with Perry" were shown at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con, in... well, San Diego. Dialogue for the movie started recording the week of April 26, 2010. A brief teaser trailer for the movie was on The Sorcerer's Apprentice DVD, and can be seen below. A commercial for the movie, which includes statements from the creators as well as storyboard animation, can be seen below that.
The official trailer was shown in June 2011, you can see it below THAT. As well, a video game for PS3, Wii, and DS comes out August 2nd, a soundtrack featuring the songs from the movie and 14 extended songs from the show. A "Perry the Platy-bus" tour was held, where a platypus-shaped truck went cross-country, stopping at sites to let residents hop aboard and play video games, dance, sing, and meet cast members. The tour stopped at the San Diego Comic-Con in... well, San Diego, but this time, in 2011!
The movie will be in theaters in Belgium and the Netherlands on August 10, but not in the U.S., much to our chagrin. The DVD of the movie comes out August 23. Guitarist Slash also wrote a song called Kick It Up a Notch for the movie, which plays during the credits.
On January 11, 2011, the worldwide chief of Disney Channel, Gary Marsh (no relation to Jeff "Swampy" Marsh, the creator of this fine series) announced that a Phineas and Ferb feature film was in development, and that it would be released in theaters. He also mentioned that it would be a mix of animation, as well as live-action. The exact release date, as well as the method of animation/live-action used, is unknown. The movie will be written by the creators, Dan & Swampy, and will be released in 2013.
